Abstract (EN)

The depot, courtyard and other rooms in Ak Medrese which has provided significiant contribution to exhibiting archaeological and ethnographical findings found in the Province of Nigde and it's surroundings were used as a museum in Niğde sinece 1936 It is important to note that it has also served a depot for the museums situated in Istanbul between 1939-1950 during the Second World War. In 1977 it was transferred to it's new location and opened to public visits in 1982 A study was conducted to determine the availability of carpets, runs and plain woven spreadings produced in the Province of Nigde and it's surroundings which are regarded as the important region in Central Anatolia for woven and tourism industry. Following this study,72 carpet, rug and plain woven spreading have been individually information. An attempt has been made to correct and update incomplete information in a best possible way and current desings have been drawn for the carpets and runs produced in Nigde and a comparative study was conducted. The carpets which are produced for commercial purposes in the region under the brand names of Nigde -Kars, Caucasia-Turkic patterns have caused Nigde carpets to loose the values in terms of quality, material, raw material and design. This is merely becausu the carpet manufactureres in the region have chosen to producu the carpets according to the demands received from foreign markets which determine the design and quality. There is no doubt that this will have an economic benefit to the region. However, this has also reduced the quantity of local carpets manufactured in the region under the brand names of Avanos, Maden,Taspınar, Bor and others. It is closely monitored that such productions have been causing culturally negative effects on traditionally local carpet making industry in the region.
