In the thesis about the tombstones of the Beylikler Period where located in Niğde city

In the thesis about the tombstones of the Beylikler period where located in Niğde city, there are 34 sarcophagus shaped tombstones in Ak Medrese were investigated .The tombstones were made in 14. and 15. century. The construcation time of some examples are determined between H.751 and H.840.31 of the tombstones are two graded prismatic form and 3 of them are one graded. Marble is used in 32 examples and stone is used in 2 examples. The kind of the 15 examples are determined such as 10 of them are men tombstones and 5 are women tombstones. 4 examples are determined as child tombstones.There are four different kinds of ornamentation used in sarcophagus; such as vegetal, geometric, written and stalactite ornamentations. Vegetal ornamentation mostly used in tombstones. In the catalog `sülüs? writing style is used in 19 examples and `nesih? style is used in 10 examples and `talik? style is used in 1 example.In the west part of the tombstone there is an inscription about the identity of the dead people and there exists an inscription about the death time in the east part of it. But in one example the inscriptions are written in the north and south parts of the sarcophagus. Mostly north and south parts of the sarcophaguses are used for different hadith, verse of Koran and articles about death.The ornamentations, forms and inscriptions of the sarcophaguses that we investigated are not only works of art but also important historical documents which are sources for a specific time and culture.
