Abstract (EN)
In this study, Nikolai Nikolayevich Muravyev, who played a role in the recognition of Central Asia by Western civilizations, which remained a mystery until the middle of the XIX century, is considered. The main purpose of the thesis is to examine Muraviev's Journey To Khiva Through Turcoman Country 1819-20 in the light of Muraviev's Journey To Khiva Through Turcoman Country and its contribution to Russia's occupation of the region. Muravyev's personality, life, career and works are also introduced. Muraviev's Journey To Khiva Through Turcoman Country 1819-20, about Muravyev's journey to the Khiva Khanate, is the main source of the work. In addition, some of Muravyev's notes (diaries) kept throughout his life and the sources of the period were also used. In addition to Muravyev's views, the works of other missions that traveled to Central Asia are also included. Aleksei V. Shishov's Polkovodtsiy Kavkazskih Voyin, published in Moscow in 2001, was often cited. Document analysis method was used in the study. Russia, which understood that it was necessary to have information about the region in order to seize the region, tried to get to know the region through some envoys. One of these envoys was Muravyev. But twenty years after Muravyev's report on the Khiva, the invasion attempt also failed. Muraviev's Journey To Khiva Through Turcoman Country 1819-20 is a useful work that he can use for his own benefit during the occupation of the Khiva, but considering that the factors affecting the outcome of the 1839 campaign are included in Muravyev's report, it is understood that the Russian government did not make enough use of this report.
