Abstract (EN)

In this research the point of view of Niyazi Berkes into modernization and education in republic period, the social variation process and the reflection of this process into social history will be examined. The environment of research consists of Niyazi Berkes is focus on modernization and education concepts. In this research scope the work of arts of Niyazi Berkes and writings written about him had been looked through. The effort of being modern stated in different forms as modernization/contemprorary/westernize, has been adventurous escapade which has continued for two centuries. Based on to these concepts, our intellectuals in social field have stated very different explanations and conclusions. One of the most important of them is undoubtely Niyazi Berkes. Because of a variety of reasons the opinions and works of Niyazi Berkes has not been understood and introduced. Defining himself as ?Atatürk?s child? and living as an intellectual in republic period, the opinions of Berkes present importance for the transformation of our modernization process and education system. At the end of research; 1. Niyazi Berkes, who has brought a different and original approach to one of most controversial topics of Turkish conception life of modernization concept and his position and importance in Turkish conceptual history,has been looked over adequately. 2. Niyazi Berkes, who evaluated the modernization process as a ?not being completed Project? ,observes Turkish modernization process shortly. The works related with Niyazi Berkes raising far away from prejudices will provide new mental openings about understanding the problems of social variation process.
