Comparing the divan of Niyazi-i Mısri and Ismail Hakki Bursavi in terms of religious and mystic terminology

Implementation of the science of comparative literature on Classical Turkish literature started in the mid-20th century, parallel with the advancement and increase in the prevalence of comparative literature. What motivated us to work on this area is the scarcity of studies on comparative literature pertaining to Classical Turkish literature compared to other disciplines. In the present study, Diwans of Niyazi-i Mısri and Ismail Hakki Bursavi, Sufi poets who hold significant places in Turkish Islamic literature and transcend ages thanks to their mystical religious ideas, have been examined systematically and comparatively in terms of their mystical and religious content. In this work, how religion and mysticism reverberate in their divans, similarities and differences between their thoughts, and their interaction with one another have been determined. Our study comprises three chapters, the first covering the lives, literary personalities and mystical circles of Niyazi-i Mısri and Ismail Hakki Bursavi. While the second chapter deals with religious content, terms, and mazmuns present in the divans of two sufi poets, the last chapter deals with mystical content, terms, and mazmuns present in their divans. In the introduction, the place of comparative literature in Classical Turkish literature is broadly introduced. In the general evaluation and concluding chapter, the interactions between two sufi poets are shown based on their similarities and differences. Also lastly, an appendix, including religious and mystical terms found in our poets' divans, is added with the thought that it may help the scholars of interest.
