Abstract (EN)
This thesis aims to comprehensively examine the Nizamiye Madrasas, which were considered a cornerstone in the institutionalization of education and the shaping of cultural and educational life during the Seljuk period, with a particular focus on the Baghdad Nizamiye Madrasa. The Nizamiye Madrasas left a profound impact not only on the Seljuk state but also on the educational understanding of Islamic civilization, especially with their significant contributions to the field of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh). Works related to the core principles, branches, dialectics, and differences of opinion of the Shafi'i school of thought were shaped at the Baghdad Nizamiye Madrasa, which is one of the crucial repositories of Islamic cultural heritage. These disciplines were effectively developed by the madrasa's teachers and jurist students. Although the Baghdad Madrasa was primarily an educational institution based on the Shafi'i school, students adhering to other madhhabs were also accommodated within this institution. Indeed, some of the leading jurists of the Hanbali and Maliki schools were trained at the Baghdad Nizamiye Madrasa. The curriculum of this madrasa also indirectly influenced the emergence of key works from these schools. Until the late period of the Ottoman Empire, madrasa educational institutions, both structurally and in terms of scientific methodology, largely followed the educational approach and curriculum of the Baghdad Nizamiye Madrasa, thus shaping the scientific production in the fields of fiqh, usul (jurisprudence principles), and related areas by continuing this tradition as a key reference point. This thesis aims to examine the educational processes of the Baghdad Nizamiye Madrasa, the methodologies applied in these processes, and the madrasa's contributions to Islamic culture, civilization, and Islamic jurisprudence in detail. In conclusion, this thesis aims to analyze both the theoretical and practical reflections of these contributions from a historical perspective.
