The effect of neuro linguistic programming on hospital administrators' communication styles, the nonverbal immediacy level, and interpersonal communication process (The practice in Ti̇re Public Hospital)

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of Neuro Linguistic Programming on hospital administrators' communication styles, the nonverbal immediacy level, and interpersonal communication process. Toward this aim, 34 administrators in Tire Public Hospital were reached in this study. In this pre-experimental study three scales along with demographic questionnaire were given to participants before and after the training; communication styles, the nonverbal immediacy scale, and interpersonal communication process scale. Pre test was employed right before the training as of 22.04.2013; post test was employed 55 days after the training as of 17.06.2013. In this study 13 research hypotheses were tested with nonparametric test (Wilcoxon sign test) or parametric test (dependent sample t-test). Descriptive statistics show that participants scale scores obtained with the three scale increased after the training. Inferential statistics showed that participants' score on interpersonal communication process had statistically significantly increased after the training. Therefore we can conclude that our first research hypothesis which is "hospital administrators who attended NLP training have higher involvement into interpersonal commination process" was confirmed. Scores obtained from communication styles scale scores statistically significantly increased after the training. Sub hypothesis about Interested and Dramatized sub scale score are above 3.5. All sub scales' score increased after the training. However, highest increase was observed for Interested and Dramatized subscale. As a results; both "hospital administrators who attended NLP training have higher interested communication level" and "hospital administrators who attended NLP training have higher dramatized communication level" were confirmed. Descriptive statistics show that pretest score of nonverbal immediacy process seems higher than post test score. Indeed, hypothesis test show that this difference is statistically significant. Therefore, our last research hypothesis which is "hospital administrators who attended NLP training use nonverbal immediacy process more often" was confirmed.
