Abstract (EN)

What are the implications of Nordic peace diplomacy in developing a distinguishable peace and conflict resolution model? In response to this question, this study focuses on the Nordic peace mediation and facilitation practices by examining four small cases, as characterized by protracted conflicts and protracted peace initiatives. These cases have been selected as the conflicts in Aceh, Cyprus, Palestine, and Sri Lanka. In this process, the aforesaid peace and conflict resolution model has been grounded in the ability to address the underlying roots of the conflicts while drawing from process, outcome, and conflict transformation-oriented approaches to mediation. Through the analysis of the selected peace and conflict resolution phases of cases and comparison of third-party techniques, both the strengths and weaknesses of Nordic peace diplomacy will be revealed in the context of peace mediation and facilitation. The findings of this study aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of Nordic peace diplomacy's potential in developing a distinguishable model of peace and conflict resolution. Thus, the research provides more holistic assessments for the Nordic peace mediation and facilitation practices while improving Nordic peace diplomacy and Nordic identity in world politics.
