ABSTRACTA COMPARISION of PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS?ACADEMIC SUCCESS WITH RESPECT TO FULL-DAY OR HALF- DAYSCHOOL ATTENDANCE(A case study in Gaziantep Province)CAMUZCU, SevimM.A Thesis, Educatinal SciencesSupervisor:Prof.Dr Hikmet Yıldırım CELKANJanuary 2007, 92 pagesThis study was contucted for the comparion of public primary schoolstudents? academic success with respect to their school attendance, as full-day orhalf-day. Data were gathered from the subjects? academic success grades and theirachievement on the Central Evaluation Examinations prepared and administered bythe Provincial Directorate of National Education. The sample of the study was 8004th and 5th grade students attending public primary schools in Greater GaziantepArea during the academic year 2005-2006. Statistical analyses executed through t-tests, revealed that students in the 4th and 5th classes from full-day attendance groupare more successful than the students in 4th and 5th grades from half-day attendancegroup. No satistically significant difference, in terms of overall academic success,were observed based on the type of attendance. Students in 4th and 5th grades fromfull-day attendance are more successful in Turkish and Mathematics than those offrom half-day attendance. No satistically significant difference was observed,between the school (academic) success of the two groups with respect to the type ofattendance. However, statistically significant positive correlation was found betweenthe subjects? school success and their Central Evaluation Examination grades.Key Words: Full-day attendance, Half-day attendance, academic success.
