Comparison of microalbuminuria levels according to the degree of obesity in normotensive obese individuals

Objective: It was aimed to determine the relationship between the degree of obesity and the level of microalbuminuria in normotensive obese patients and to reveal the clinical importance of microalbuminuria. Method: The files of patients who were diagnosed with obesity, normotensive patients older than 18 years old and younger than 80 years old, who applied to Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Training and Research Hospital Internal Medicine outpatient clinic between january 1st 2017 to september 30th 2019 were examined. Sixty-three (63) obese patients who did not have hypertension and diabetes and who did not have any additional disease that would affect microalbuminuria were recruited. These patients were divided into grade 1 (n:27), grade 2 (n:20), and grade 3 obese (n:16) according to body mass index. Microalbuminuria, HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, waist circumference, HOMA-IR, blood pressure and lipid values were compared from the data obtained between these groups. Results: A total of 63 obese patients were recruited. The mean age is 36,8(11,9), 40,6(14) 35,6(12,4) and there are 27 people in the 1st group, 20 in the 2nd group and 17 in the 3rd group. When microalbumin/creatinine in spot urine was compared in these three groups separated according to body mass indexes, no significant difference was found, respectively (6,7(2-26), 7,1(2-43), 5,6(3-40) p:0,72). When the correlation between body mass index and HbA1c, HOMA-IR, waist circumference and hip circumference was examined, there was a positive correlation (r: 0,261 r: 0,333 r: 0,658 r: 0,572 p<0,05). There was no correlation between BMI and microalbumin/creatinine in spot urine. Conclusion: Microalbuminuria could not be detected in our patient groups. No relationship was found between body mass index and microalbumin.
