Abstract (EN)

People change the village, province, country or continent in which they live as individuals or in masses, either temporarily or permanently. These movements of displacement are happened in the direction of people's own choices sometimes like due to receive education, to live a better life, to express their beliefs and lifestyles more freely. Sometimes natural disasters just as floods, earthquakes, landslides, and sometimes due to reasons just as war, deportation people mandatory are changed the places where they live with the concern of losing their safety of life and property. Our country and especially Istanbul has been one of places chosen by people to live who have left their countries for centuries because of its transportation, geographical, historical, cultural and economic and many other attractions. However, while some of the foreigners who live in our country want to become citizen in Turkey and live here permanently, some of them want to go back to their countries if things get better, and some of them also use Turkey as transition route in order to pass to Europa and American continents and they are thinking of going at the appropriate time. In this study called, "A research in terms of population geography: Foreign nationals residing in Istanbul province", the foreigners living with a residence permit in Istanbul in 2017 and 2020 were examined. This thesis consists of three parts. In prologue, the foreign nationals residing in Turkey are given the population distribution according to provinces and countries. In the first part of thesis, the distribution of foreigners residing in Istanbul province is explained by their continents and countries. In the second part of thesis, the distribution of foreigners residing in each district by country is explained in alphabetical order, and the age and gender distributions of foreigners are briefly mentioned. In the third part of thesis, information is given about the problems experienced by foreigners and the problems caused by foreigners. Our country needs to develop new policies regarding to the foreign population which has reached a large portion in recent years.
