Abstract (TR)

Fluid flow around bluff bodies such as circular and square cross-sections is one of the fundamental fluid mechanics problems and has received a considerable attention for years. Several engineering applications such as off-shore structures, bridge piers and tall structures can be modeled as cylinders. The aim of this study is to simulate the flow around circular and square cylinders by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools. Flow field and drag coefficient analyses were performed by FLUENT with Reynolds number ranging from 2 to 4*106. The shear stress transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model was used to simulate two-dimensional (2-D) flow past vertical cylinders. The results of this investigation are compared with the outcomes of the previously conducted experimental studies. Analysis of the drag coefficient, which is a significant subject in hydrodynamics design, is investigated with circular and square shaped cylinders.
