Abstract (EN)

The "principle of protecting the lineage", one of the five fundamental invioble principles known as "zarûrât-ı hamse" in the Islamic religion, is under threat today as it was in history. Violation of the principle of preserving the offspring is called adultery in Islam. The act of adultery, which poses a great threat to future generations, continues to be committed today as it did in the past, and the punishment for this act in this World and the hereafter is often ignored. In this study, the second verse of the Surah An-Nur, which informs about the punishment of the adulterer, was examined and the distorted approaches to the act of adultery in the holy books of other heavenly religions were discussed. Our research began with the introduction of the Surah An-Nur, which includes the punishment of adultery as well as moral provisions. In addition, an attempt has been made to analyze how the 2nd verse of Surah An-Nur has been interpreted by different commentators and contemporary tafsir scholars from the classical period to the present day. During this review, since it is not practical to refer to all classical and modern tafsir sources, classical tasfir works that are considered important for Muslims and frequently referred to, and contemporary tafsir works that offer different interpretations than classical tafsir have been preferred. In accordance with the purpose of our study, after examining the 2nd verse of Surah An-Nur, we evaluated the perspective of other holy books on the act of adultery and the types of punishment applied to those who commit this act by directly referring to the sources. In this process, we also briefly discussed the perception of the act of adultery in societies and the punishments applied in non-divine religions and human law systems that have been shaped throughout history.
