Abstract (EN)

Though having produced only a handful of films, Nuri Bilge Ceylan has created his own cinematographic auteur director narrative, and has already taken his place in Turkish Cinema history. In order to comprehend the multi-award winning director?s complex cinema, the alienation theme, he so commonly demonstrates in his projects, needs to be examined. For further understanding, in this study, the historical evolution of alienation theory as well as Turkey?s social characteristics and the Turkish cinema have been analysed. So as to point out the alienation aspects in Ceylan?s cinema, his films, Kasaba (1997), Mayıs Sıkıntısı (1999), Uzak (2002) and İklimler (2006), have been studied ; the screenplays and cinematography has been evaluated to further grasp in which way this theme of alienation has been put forward.
