Özet (EN)

Recent scientific research has contributed to a better understanding of the complex relationship between obesity and diabetes. In obese individuals, a high body mass index (BMI) is strongly associated with increased low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels and decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. These findings support the role of obesity as a major factor that increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the relationship between BMI, lipid profile, insulin resistance, and vitamin D levels in obese individuals. We believe that analyzing the interactions among these parameters can contribute to the prevention and treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases by providing a better understanding of the effects of obesity on metabolic health. By assessing the relationship between vitamin D levels, obesity, and insulin resistance, our study aimed to shed light on the development of new strategies for managing metabolic disorders in obese individuals. This retrospective study was conducted at Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Training Hospital Obesity Center. Individuals aged 18–65 years with a BMI over 25 were included. Participants' serum vitamin D levels, lipid profiles (LDL, HDL, triglycerides), and insulin resistance values were obtained from the laboratory information management system, and their relationships with metabolic parameters were analyzed. As a result, vitamin D supplementation was suggested to be a potential supportive factor in the management of metabolic health in obese individuals.
