Abstract (EN)

Evaluation of Serum Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 Levels in Obese and Non-Obese Adult Asthmatic Patients Objective: In this study, we aimed to compare vitamin D and vitamin B12 levels in obese and non-obese adult asthmatic patients. Materials and methods: 41 obese asthmatic patients with BMI> 30 and 32 non-obese adult asthmatic patients with BMI <30 were included in the study. Demographic, clinical and laboratory data of the patients were recorded. Serum vitamin D3, vitamin B12 levels, pulmonary function tests (PFT) and demographic characteristics were compared between obese and non-obese asthma groups. Results: 78% of the obese asthma group and 50% of the non-obese asthma group were female. The median age was 50 in obese asthma patients and 43.5 in non-obese patients. A significant difference was found between the groups in terms of gender and median age (p = 0.012, p = 0.013, respectively). There was no significant difference between the groups in terms of serum vitamin D3, B12 levels and PFT (p> 0.05). There was also no significant difference between obese and non-obese groups with vitamin D3 deficiency and vitamin B12 deficiency (p> 0.05). Conclusion: There was no difference between obese and non-obese asthmatics in terms of Vitamin D3, Vitamin B12 levels and PFT. Larger research is needed to confirm these data. Keywords: asthma, obesity, vitamin D, vitamin B12
