ABSTRACT THE FREQUENCY OF PANCREATIC STEATOSIS IN OBESE, PREDIABETIC AND DIABETIC PATIENTS AND THE RELATIONSHIP OF PANCREATIC STEATOSIS WITH TRIMETHYLAMINE N-OXIDE AND SHORT CHAIN FATTY ACIDS Pancreatic steatosis (PS) is a condition characterized by increased pancreatic triacylglycerol content and adipocytes interspersed within the pancreatic parenchyma. PS is the most common benign pathological condition of the pancreas in adults and is often associated with obesity and insulin resistance. In our study, to determine the frequency of PS in obese, prediabetes and diabetes patients, in addition, it was aimed to determine the role of intestinal microbiota metabolites short chain fatty acids (SCFA) and (TMAO), which are thought to be associated with obesity and insulin resistance as well as inflammatory cascade, metabolic syndrome, various metabolic conditions and steatohepatitis, in the development of PS. A total of 136 individuals, including 34 control, 30 prediabetes, 40 diabetes and 32 obese, were included in our study. After the demographic characteristics, height, weight and waist circumference measurement information were obtained from all the participants, the laboratory parameters available in the system were recorded, and the PS data in the available abdominal ultrasonography (USG) were used. TMAO and SCFA levels were studied in the blood samples taken. Of the individuals included in the study, 52 were male and 84 were female. The mean age of the individuals was 44.5±14.6. While PS was detected in 70.6% of all individuals; Steatosis was present in 44.1% of the control group, 73.3% of the prediabetes group, 82.5% of the DM group and 81.2% of the obese group. When patients with and without PS were compared in terms of TMAO levels; It was determined that patients with steatosis had a lower level of TMAO, but it did not make a significant difference compared to patients without steatosis. There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of SCFA levels, and SCFA levels were found to be lower in patients with steatosis. In addition, a significant difference was found between the control group and all other groups in terms of TMAO and SCFA levels, and it was observed that TMAO and SCFA levels were higher in the control group.
