Investigation of some blood parameters in diabetic patients after bariatric surgery

This study aimed to investigate the effects of weight loss achieved through bariatric surgery on glucose metabolism and lipid profile and to contribute to the existing literature on this relationship. Patients who underwent bariatric surgery at Fırat University General Surgery Clinic were retrospectively evaluated. The study analyzed the levels of Hemoglobin A1c [HbA1c], glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, and C-reactive protein [CRP] before and after surgery. The data were obtained through routine biochemical analyses of blood serum samples. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in glucose levels and an improvement in triglyceride levels following bariatric surgery. Additionally, an increase in HDL cholesterol levels and a decrease in LDL cholesterol levels were observed. Overall, a general improvement in the metabolic health indicators of the patients was identified post-surgery. These findings highlight that obesity is not merely limited to weight gain but also has widespread effects on metabolic and cardiovascular health. The study supports the role of bariatric surgery as an effective tool in managing obesity-related metabolic disorders and provides valuable contributions to the literature in this field.
