Özet (EN)

Objective: Obesity has become an increasing problem all over the world. That's why sleeve gastrectomy has become the most commonly performed bariatric surgical procedure lately. After sleeve gastrectomy, patients can sometimes lose up to 85% of their excess body weight (5,12). During this period, malnutrition may develop due to rapid weight loss (8). At the same time, obesity related increased pro-inflammatory cytokines may cause increased inflammation in patients (9). In this study, we aimed to detect the development of malnutrition and changes in infection parameters due to rapid weight loss after bariatric surgery. Materials and Metod: This study retrospectively examined the preoperative and postoperative 1st,2nd,6th and 12 th month results of laboratory parameters of patient who underwent sleeve gastrectomy surgery in the Department of General Surgery at Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University in a 5 year period between 2019 and 2024. Results: A total of 95 patients, 72 women and 23 men, were included in the study. The patients were examined in 4 groups: obese, extremely obese, morbidly obese and super obese. White blood cell, crp, albumin, and ferritin values were examined retrospectively at the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 12th months. Conclusion: When comparing the preoperative white blood cell and crp values of obese patients, a significant statistical difference was detected in the preoperative and postoperative periods. In the study conducted with albumin values, although there was a difference between the preoperative and 2nd and 6th month results, difference was detected between the 12th month and the preoperative results. In the comparison made with ferritin, no significant difference was seen in terms of malnutrition. Early initiation of replacement therapy in patients explains the prevention of the development of malnutrition.
