Abstract (EN)
Obesity is a chronic medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and quality by increasing health problems. Ghrelin, orexigenic hormone, is a recently discovered, growth hormone-releasing and feeding-stimulating peptide in human and animals. Ghrelin initiates meal, regulates appetite, energy expenditure and fuel utilization. Studies on appetite regulating hormones accelerated after discovering visfatin (1994), leptin (1994), then ghrelin (1999) and obestatin (2005). The aim of this study was to find out the acute effect of different liquids consumed during aerobic exercise on appetite regulating hormones in obese subjects. 15 female patients aged between 25-45 years old were included voluntarily in this study, after medically evaluated by expert physicians. Resting blood pressure, arterial blood pressure, waist-hip ratio, BMI, body fat percentage, height, weight and personal informations of subjects were taken at beginning. Subjects applying a standard diet participated in an exercise period at intensity of 75% for 60 min along 15 days and then the main study was started. Subjects were divided into 3 groups as kefir, mineral water and water groups. In the 1. day and the 2. day blood samples from subjects were taken in hospital then im the 3. day subjects exercised at an intesity of 75% according to Karvonen formula for 75 minutes. At the beginning of exercise (0. min), at the end of exercise (75. min) and 20 min. after exercise finished, blood samples were taken from subjects in the field. Leptin, ghrelin, insulin, glucose values values were examined in blood samples. Each group consumed kefir, mineral water and water respectively, during exercise session. Data were analyzed in SPSS 17 Statistical Program and displayed in aritmetic mean and standard deviation. Differences between groups were tested by Kruskal-Wallis Test and then Mann-Whitney U Test was applied for post - hoc analysis. Within group differences were tested by Friedman Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test was used for post-hoc analysis. It was found that there is a statistically significant differences between groups after exercise at 75 min. (p<0.05). The differences in acil ghrelin level was significant between groups after exercise. As a result, it was concluded that a liquid consumed during aerobic type of exercise can depress the acil ghrelin level and therefore can lessen appetite after exercise.
