Body perception and somatic complaints in patients withobsessive compulsive disorder

In this study, we aimed to investigate the body satisfaction and somatization levels of individuals with OCD. For this purpose, 84 OCD patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and applied to the our clinic consecutively were included in our study. DSM-5 Structured Clinical Interview-Clinical Version (SCID-5), Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Scale (YBOCS), Body Image Scale (BIS), Bradford Somatic Inventory (BSI-44) were administered to the participants by the researcher. The obtained data were evaluated by transferring them to the SPSS for Windows 22.0 database program. It was observed that the most common obsession of the participants was contamination obsession, followed by other obsessions and aggression obsessions, respectively. It was determined that the most common compulsion was checking compulsion, followed by cleansing and repetitive ceremonial compulsions, respectively. The mean score of 21,7 ±7,7 points in YBOCS, 137,6 ±26,3 points in BIS, and 25.8 ±17.8 points in BSI-44 on average, women were statistically significantly higher than men in BIS. It was determined that there was no significant difference between men and women in other scales. It was determined that body perception was higher in those with sequencing and arrangement compulsions, and somatization was higher in those with hoarding obsessions, symmetry obsessions, somatic obsessions and other obsessions, and repetitive ritualistic compulsions. While body perception did not change according to sociodemographic variables, it was observed that somatization was higher in self-employed. While there was no relationship between OCD disease severity and body image and somatization, it was determined that somatization decreased as body image increased. In our study, it was found that individuals with OCD had good body satisfaction and normal somatization levels. Keywords: Body image, compulsion, obsession, somatization
