RELIABILITY AND VALIDITY OF THE TURKISH VERSION OF FAMILY ACCOMMODATİON SCALE-PATİENT VERSİON FOR OBSESSİVE COMPULSİVE DİSORDER ABSTRACT: Aim: The aim of present study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Turkish form of "Family Accommodation Scale-Patient Version" developed to measure the presence and frequency of family accommodation in obsessivecompulsive disorder and examination of the relationship between family accommodation and family burden, the relationship between family adjustment and severity of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Methods: This study was conducted in the Department of Psychiatry in Celal Bayar University Hospital between March 2017 and February 2018. The participants were in- or out-patients diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder according to the DSM-4. The exclusion criteria were comorbidity of other psychiatric disorders and/or physical diseases. Following the SCID interview, 107 patients with OCD who meet the criteria for inclusion in the study and relatives without any psychiatric or physical diseases that the patients had been living with for at least 1 year were included in the study. In the assesment beside FAS-PV, Burden Assessment Scale, Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale symptom checklist, severity scale (Y-BOCS), the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) scale, hamilton depression rating scale was used. In reliability analysis internal consistency coefficient and item-total correlation analysis were performed; for validity analysis exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed. In convergent validity correlation analyses between Burden Assessment Scale, Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale symptom checklist, severity scale (Y-BOCS), the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) scale were computed. Results: The mean age of the patient group was 34,41±10,86 and relative of the OCD patient group was 38,65±12,58. 57% of the patient group and 45.8% of the relative group were female. The mean score of FAS-PV was 24.78±15.78.The internal consistency of the FAS-PV was 0.89 and, item-total correlation coefficients were between 0.21-0.66 (p <0.0001). For the exploratory factor analysis of sample adequacy of FAS-PV Kaiser-Meğer-Olkin (KMO) coefficients 0.75 and Bartlett coefficient 500.1 (p <0.0001) was found. Seven-factor solution was obtained representing 75.39 % of the total variance. Factor loadings of the items of the scale were between 0.49-0.92. Confirmatory factor analysis tested a 4-factor model, which included Direct participation and facilitation of OCD symptoms, Avoidance of OCD triggers, Taking on patient responsibilities, and Modification of personal responsibilities. In confirmatory factor analysis, 4 domains fit the model with a RMSEA of 0.079. There were moderate to high correlations between FAS-PV and Burden Assessment Scale, Yale–Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) scale (respectively r= 0,73, 0,62, 0,60 ve p< 0,01). Conclusion: Results demonstrated that the Turkish version of FAS-PV is a valid and reliable.
