Abstract (EN)

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OUAS) is diagnosed with the upper respiractory tract obstruction epizots recurring during sleep and with the frequent decrease in blood oxygen level. The factors contracting the upper respiratory tract and enabling it to shrink, increasy the tendency to OUAS. These factors are noted to be obesity, older age, male gender, anatomic anomaly and the inability to control respiration during sleep. OUAS or obesity brings out many cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study is to assess the frequency of obesity and cardiovascular diseases in patients with OUAS. This study has been conducted on 254 patients who applied to Dicle University Training and Research Hospital Sleep Disorders Centre with early OUAS diagnosis on October 2004-January 2006, and who have been diagnosed with OUAS or not. This study has been designed in descriptive sectional type, PSG (Polisomnografi) " Gloden Standard Diagnosis Method", the most important diagnosis method to diagnose OUAS, has been applied on each patient consulting with early OUAS diagnosis and their AHI (Apne- Hipopne İndeksi) level has been found out. XII In the study, blood-lipid vawes and blood pressure, which are significant indicators to find out cardiovascular risk factors, have been measured by taking blood samples from each patient. In the research 183 (% 72.0) of the patients with early OUAS diagnosis have been diagnosed as OUAS with polysomnography. % 83.1 of the patients is male, % 16.9 is female. % 16.9 of the incidents has been stated to have low, % 24.8 medium, % 30.8 high AHI level. Most of the patients with OUAS (% 81.9) are at 30-60 age group. When evalvated according to their BKI, it has been stated that % 81.8 with high OUAS is obese, % 15.6 is overweight, % 17.8 of the ones with medium level of OSAS is obese, % 63.5 is overweight and % 18.6 with low level of OUAS is obese, % 62.8 is overweight. In the study, the frequency of cardiovascular complications has been cited as % 42.6 and the hypertension as % 17.5 in OUAS patients. In % 61.2 of the patients with OUAS, trigliserid; in % 65.5, cholesterol; in % 70.2, level of LDL (Low Density Lipoprotein) has been stated high, and in % 55.7, HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) level was low. When looked into the relation between BKI and blood-lipid valves, in % 78.5 of obese, trigliserid level, in % 82.8, cholesterol, in % 76.4 LDL level has been stated high and in % 70.9, HDL level was low. In % 65.8 of obeses with OUAS and % 29.1 of the overweight, cardiovascular complications; in % 84.4 of obeses with OUAS and % 12.5 of overweight patients hypertension has been identified. X III As a result, it can be inferred that obesity is frequently encountered in patients with OUAS; existence of OUAS and obesity together increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases and hypertension.. Key Words: OUAS, obesity, cardiovascular disease.
