Abstract (EN)

This work analyses the use of diaphragm in oboe and evaluates how it functions in some greatest music pieces. The main aim of this essay is to provide a primary source written in Turkish. No Turkish source concerning this issue can be found in the field. The first part of the work is dedicated to the introduction, the aim and importance of this research, the method for data accumulation and to the nature of this research. The second chapter deals with the basics of oboe, its evolution process in a historical scale and the repertoire for solo oboe. In the following chapter, the anatomy of the diaphragm and the fundamental information about diaphragmatic breathing are discussed. In the fourth chapter, the proper way of diaphragmatic breathing is analysed with references to the selected solo and orchestral pieces; the method of using the diaphragm is studied; and exercises that strengthen the diaphragm are included. Since the lack of information in Turkey about playing the oboe from the diaphragm is believed to cause problems, the work aims to fulfil this need. As no Turkish source regarding this issue is present, this work intends to become a useful "primary source in Turkish" and is, therefore, written to be beneficial for oboe players.
