Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of anger managementtraining on anger coping and communication skills of adolescents. The State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory (STAXI) developed bySpielberger (1988) and adapted into Turkish by Özer (1994b) was used to measurelevels of trait anger, anger-in, anger-out and anger control, which are dependentvariables of this study. The Communication Skills Inventory (1998) developed byErsanlı and Balcı (1998) was used to measure the communication skills ? the otherdependent variable of the study. The independent variable of the study is the Anger Management Training. The experimental group was given 90-minute Anger Management Training coursesdeveloped by the researcher once a week during 12 weeks. The placebo group wasgiven 90-minute training courses in the form of encounter group once a week during12 weeks. However, no training was provided to the control group. An experimental model with pre-test and post-test control group was used inthe study. The average scores obtained by the groups from scales before and after theexperimental process were identified and variance analysis (ANOVA) was appliedon repeated measures in order to find out whether the differences were significant ornot. In this study, a statistically significant decrease was found in trait anger,anger-in and anger-out levels and a statistically significant increase was found inanger control level and communication skills after the Anger Management Training. It was also showed that a statistically significant increase was achieved incommunication skills of the placebo group after an application in the form ofencounter group.
