Fire safety precautions of student housing building

Education is the whole of the knowledge and skills that people add to their lives from birth to death. In a healthy education process, besides the educational buildings, the safety of the buildings that meet the students ' needs for housing is also important. Fire danger is one of the most important safety problems that results in loss of life and financial loss, which has happened and there is no guarantee that it will not happen again. In buildings that provide student housing that entering the building class for accommodation purposes, the fire disaster also becomes dangerous for these structures in the night, since the most passive state of people is the act of sleeping. Special attention should be paid to fire safety measures, as users are separate from different age groups and families. The aim of the thesis is; It is to allow fire safety precautions to be taken correctly in buildings that provide student housing. It is aimed to identify and eliminate deficiencies in terms of fire safety in buildings. In addition, it is aimed that the designs of the buildings will be shaped by covering the security measures and that they will create and illuminate data for the new buildings to be built. Within the scope of the thesis; fires in student dormitories and hostels were examined and analyzes were made in accordance with the causes of fire. By referring to active fire safety measures, passive fire safety measures, which were the principal responsibility of the architects, were emphasized. The subject is handled within the scope of literature studies and regulations. Performance criteria have been established in the context of fire safety measures for buildings that meet the housing needs of students. As a sample, the appropriateness analysis of the performance criteria was made through a higher education dormitory selected in Ankara. In the sample selection, this dormitory building; being larger than other housing buildings, more dangerous in terms of fire risk, etc. It was preferred for reasons. As a result, evaluations were made regarding the fire safety measures that should be taken in the buildings that provide student housing in line with the researches and performance criteria. Suggestions were made regarding the building materials, structural elements, carrier system, escape routes, planning of high-risk places, electrical installation, extinguishing systems and inspections.
