Qualifications of the Faculty of the Theology instructors to perform classroom educational activities according to students

Theology faculties are the most important institutions that train personnel serving in the field of religious education in institutions under the Ministry of National Education (MEB) and the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DIB). The purpose of this research is to evaluate the in-class instructional activity competence of the instructors who carry out educational activities in these institutions by the students. In this direction, the opinions of the students studying at the faculties of theology were sought. Survey research, which is one of the quantitative research methods, was used in the research. The research population consists of the students of Faculty of Theology of İnönü University and Faculty of Theology of Dicle University. The research sample group consists of 604 students who are studying at Faculty of Theology of Dicle University and Faculty of Theology of İnönü University in the 2021-2022 academic year. In the research, a data collection tool called "In-class Instructional Behaviors of University Faculty Members", which was developed by testing its reliability and validity, was used. The data were obtained by adapting the data collection tool to the digital survey and applying it to the sample group. The obtained data were analyzed using the SPSS 26 statistical data analysis package program. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of the data, and t T-test, one of the parametric tests, was applied for the analysis of the data showing normal distribution. Mann Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis H Test, which are non-parametric tests, were used for the analysis of data that did not show normal distribution. As a result of the analyzes made, it is understood that the students of the faculty of theology do not consider the instructors working in the faculties of theology to be competent in performing in-class instructional activities. It has been seen that these results are in parallel with the studies in literature on the pedagogical competence of the instructors. According to the results of this research, it is necessary to improve in terms of the pedagogical formation, which also includes the competences of performing in-class instructional activities of the instructors who carry out educational activities in the faculties of theology.
