A sociological research on the leisure time activities of lecturers: Eastern Anatolian sample

Besides being a subject which should be taken into consideration during thewhole life, leisure activities occupy an important period of human life. Leısure was asymbol of status and source of prestige for the upper social groups before becamingindustrialized bat nowadays this opinion berames an indivpensable part of life inmodern societies. The rapid chunges in economic and socipolitic lives of recent modernsocieties effected theimportance and evaluation way of leisure.Lecturers in universities who have important and sacred social status also are instress of too much work. Those who work in such institutions that will form the futureof the societies are also the members of upper and middle upper socioeconomic groups.Leisure activities of this social group and its frequency are the subjects of this study.Personal informations and socioeconomic characteristics of the lecturers aretried to be pointed out according to the findings. The activities for evalvation of leisuremanifested some functions such as having fun, resting, becoming a society and makingsocial relations. The activities that improve personal intellectuality and socialrelationship such as reading books, taking care of the family and joining the social andculturel activities are determined to occupy the leisure time of the lecturers. Huntingand going to entertainment places such as bars, casinos, cafeterias are observed to be theactivities which they rarely attend.Key words: Leisure time, Recreation, Leisure time activities, Lecturers,
