The effect of the WEB-based asynchronize distance education application based on the elaboration theory of instruction on the academic achievements of the university students

ABSTRACT THE EFFECT OF THE WEB-BASED ASYNCHRONIZE DISTANCE EDUCATION APPLICATION BASED ON THE ELABORATION THEORY OF INSTRUCTION ON THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS Mesut ÖZONUR Master Thesis, Computer and Instruction Technologies Education Sciences Supervisor: Assist.Prof.Dr. Mehmet TEKDAL August 2004, 72 pages In this study, it is aimed to develope an instructional materials and to determine the effect of the web-based asynchronize distance education application based on the elaboration theory of instruction on the academic achievement of the university students by comparing with the education which is done by centered method teaching conventionally on the same subject. In addition, it is studied to present the lectures on the web which are given at Çukurova University and to contribute to the studies in the matter of distance education in our country. In this research, real experimental design method has been used. For this purpose, an experimental and a control group have been determined. The instruction has been carried out by using the distance education material which is prepared based elaboration theory of instruction for experimental group while conventional method is used for the control group. The research has been designed according to "pretest-posttest control grouped design" model. Findings of this research showed that the academic achievement level of the experimental group is significantly higher than the level of the control group.
