Educational and general use of facebook and facebook addiction of teacher candidates(SAU College of Education sample)

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the views of prospective teachers of Sakarya University Education Faculty over Facebook addictions, Facebook usage purposes (social relations, for their studies and daily use) and the use of Facebook for their academic purposes (communication, cooperation, sharing sources and materials) have been analyzed in terms of gender, department and grade variables. The research has been conducted with prospective teachers of Sakarya University Education Faculty. The sample of the research consists of a total of 1494 people 877 of which are females and 677 of which are males. Distributions of prospective teachers who took part in the research according to their genders were as follows: %58.7 of females and %41.3 of males. First, second, third and fourth grade prospective teachers from the departments of Computer Education and Instructional Technology, Classroom Teaching, Social Sciences, Psychological Counseling, Science and Technology, Pre-Schooling, Mathematics, Teaching of Mentally Disabled and Turkish have taken part in the research. The research has been conducted according to the scanning model. A set of data has been formed depending on the answers of the prospective teachers to the three different polls.The data collected through the polls has been analyzed with the help of exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, test-retest reliability, frequency and percentage, t-test, ANOVA and the correlation coefficient techniques.At the end of the research, according to the t-test results, it has been found that male prospective teachers use Facebook more than female prospective teachers. Also, with the ANOVA analysis carried out in terms of factors, it has been understood that there are significant differences among the departments. With the ANOVA analysis, considerable differences have been found in the answers of the prospective teachers according to the grade variable.Keywords: Internet, Social Network, Addiction, Educational Using, Facebook.
