Investigation of prospective teacher's 'views on life skills

The aim of this study is to examine the life skills of prospective teachers in terms of department and class level. The participants were 518 prospective teachers in the first and fourth grades of the faculty of education of a public university. The life skills scale consisting of 83 items was used as a data collection tool of the study. Life skills scale consists of ten sub-factors. These include: Critical thinking skills, creative thinking skills, decision-making and problem solving skills, coping with stress and emotions, interpersonal relationship and communication skills, empathy, self-awareness, self-esteem, teamwork and social responsibility. Descriptive statistics and multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) were used for data analysis. The results of the life skills scale factor analysis confirmed the ten-factor structure for prospective teachers (18-25 years) in the sample group of this study. According to the results of the study, while the average scores of life skills of the prospective teachers did not show a significant difference in terms of class variable, it was seen that there was a significant difference in terms of dependent variables according to the common effects of department and class*department. The results of the comparisons between the departments showed that there were significant differences in all factors except the empathy sub-factor and that the greatest difference was in favor of the students of the Fine Arts department.
