Teacher selection policies and the necessary qalities of an appliciant teacher to be accepted

This study aims to obtain the effectiveness of the policies and the models oftheselection and recruitment of the teachers applied in Turkey and to obtain thenecessary qualifications or the qualifications thought to be necessary which thestudent teachers should have to be admitted to the teaching profession in the processof the selection and the recruitment of the teachers to the schools.With this aim,whether there was a data collection instrumentdeveloped about this research or not before was examined and afterthe examination it was found that such a data collection instrument had not beenused and a research about this subject had not been done before.The data collectioninstrument was developed by and the researcher.The instrument was applied to 41public head teachers an 40 private head teachers, totally 81 head teachers of theschools in Üsküdar,İstanbul.The data was analyzed by using the SPSS 10.0(Statistical Packet for Social Sciences).The descriptive statistics; frequency,percentage, mean and standard deviations were used in determining the evaluationsregarding to the criterions important at the selection of the teacher which the headteachers and the other personnel were authorized.The frequency distributions andpercentages were found in the first and fourth parts.In the second and third parts, ttestwas applied to examine the differences of the views of the head teachers workingin public or private sectors.The major findings are as follows:The public and private head teachersadopted ?the school administration and expert teachers school commission model?from the teacher election models.Hence, it is thought that the transition to the locallyschool management might be beneficial by giving up the centralist structure in thepublic sector.A department of Human Resources Management might be in theschools.Another major finding is related to the personel and vocatinal qualificationsin the process of selectiong teachers.Espeacially,the qualifications like thecommunication skills,reliability,good usage of oral and writing language,appearenceand calssroom managment style were striking.If the student teachers develop theseand similar qualifications while studying at the university,they can increase thepossibility of finding a job.
