The relationship between the professional satisfaction and life quality in teachers: The example of Kadirli district

In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between the professional satisfaction and life quality of teachers working in secondary school and to investigate the differences in professional satisfaction and life quality according to the demographic characteristics of the teachers. The population of the research is the teachers in various branches and education levels working in 15 secondary schools within the municipal boundaries of Kadirli district which is in Osmaniye province in the academic year of 2019-2020. The sample of the research consists of 200 teachers selected from 15 secondary schools by stratified random sampling. Personal Information Form developed by the researcher, Occupational Satisfaction Scale and World Health Organization Life Qality Scale-Short Form were used as data collection tools in the research. The data were analyzed by using IBM SPSS 22 statistical software. In the research, professional satisfaction was an independent variable and quality of life was taken as a dependent variable. Other independent variables were age, gender, branch, time spent in the profession, leisure time activity, and monthly income. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between professional satisfaction and quality of life. Descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U, One-Way ANOVA, Post Hoch Tukey tests were used when examining the relationships between other independent variables and professional satisfaction and quality of life. As a result of the analiysis, it was found that there was a mid-level significant positive correlation between the professional satisfaction scores of teachers and the WHOQOL-BREF TR Scale in terms of physical, mental, environmental and sub-dimensions, and low-level positive significant correlation between social area sub-dimensions. The WHOQOL-BREF TR Scale sub-dimension scores of men were significantly higher than women. There was a significant difference between the age groups of teachers and the environmental area sub-dimension of WHOQOL-BREF TR Scale. In terms of the time spent in the professional (experience), there was a significant difference between the teachers' professional satisfaction scores and WHOQOL-BREF TR Scale's environmental area sub-dimension, which was divided into there groups as 0-10, 11-20 and over 20 years. Professional satisfaction and quality of life sub-dimension scores of teachers finding monthly income sufficient were found to be significantly higher than teachers who did not find monthly income sufficient. Professional satisfaction and quality of life sub-dimension scores of teachers with leusure time activities (hobby) were found to be significantly higher than teachers without hobby activites. No significant relationship was found between the average age of the teachers participating in the study and their time spent in the profession, and their professional satisfaction or quality of life sub-dimension scores.
