New reaction from teachers: Quiet resignation

Abstract (EN)

This study aims to determine the opinions of administrators and teachers working in secondary education institutions regarding the phenomenon of silent resignation. This research was prepared according to the qualitative research method. In this study, a semi-structured interview form consisting of questions prepared by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. Content analysis was used to analyze the data. The study group consists of a total of 18 participants, including 4 school principals, 4 deputy principals and 10 teachers working in different types of secondary education institutions in Kepez district of Antalya province. According to the results obtained from the research; When theparticipants' opinions about the reasons forteachers' silent resignation reaction were examined, it was seen that most of the participants answered as "material and moral dissatisfaction" and "thinking that they do not receive the value they deserve", while some answered as "thinking that the school administration is incompetent" and "unrest in the working environment".When the participants' opinions about the personal characteristics of teachers who gave a silent resignation reaction were examined, most of the participants stated that these teachers were "not determined, critical, shy, and avoided discussing"; Some participants also stated that silent resignation has nothing to do with personality. When the participants' opinions on how they evaluated the positive consequences of this situation of teachers who reacted silently to resignation, 39% stated that silent resignation provided psychological relief for the teacher; It was revealed that 33% of them thought that silent resignation did not have a positive effect on the teacher. When the participants' opinions on how they evaluated the negative consequences of this situation of teachers who reacted silently to resignation, 44.4% stated that silent resignation would make the teacher unhappy, 33.3% stated that it would cause a decrease in performance, while some of them stated that "their Professional development will stop and the school climate will be negative lyaffected." It was seen that he answered as follows. The participants were asked whether they had a silent resignation reaction, and 1/4 of the school principals, 3/4 of the deputy principals, 2/5 of the teachers, and 44.4% of all participants stated that they had a silent resignation reaction. In this research, the opinions of school administrators and teachers regarding the concept of silent resignation were revealed. It cannot be ignored that silent resignation is a common reaction among teachers. While silent resignation has positive and negative effects on teachers, it has negative effects on institutions. Managers can prevent silent resignation by using effective communication methods and acting fairly.
