Teachers opinions on values education: Instance of the Samsun

In this study we examined the role of branch teachers in values education, it was made to analyze and evaluate the common denominator of teachers in different branches about values education. In this case study with a methodological approach consists of 24 branch teachers working in secondary school in Samsun, affiliated to the Ministry of National Education, it was determined by purposive sampling. In this context, the interview technique was applied to the branch teachers. In this interview, we used semi-structured interview form consisting of 16 questions. In accordance with the data collection tool used in the research, descriptive analysis technique was used. By deciphering the data obtained from the semi-structured interview conducted in this direction, the same amount of themes, categories and sub-categories were determined and various results were obtained by evaluating the data The result of the research, it has been determined that the views of teachers in values education are consistent. Throughout our study, the teachers who mostly dealt with values such as respect, love, empathy, truth, honesty, justice and compassion; They frequently emphasized the importance of values education and expressed opinions on the common denominator. It was concluded that the majority of the teachers did not receive training on values in education. The teachers who participated in our research emphasized that it is necessary for students to receive value education at a young age. It has been concluded that every method used by the teachers is applied to gain a value, the individual differences of the students are taken into account, different disciplines are used in value education practices, and it is also noted values education practices are successful. Teachers wanted to see the value of respect and empathy in people the most followed by love and empathy. Within the scope of the branch, the answers given varied, and original values such as belief, success, discipline, responsibility, curiosity, openness to cultures were expressed. It has been determined that teachers need values education in every field. It is seen that the most important factor determining student behavior is family. It has been concluded that the dimensions of the relationship of respect, love and trust between the teacher and the student are positive and mutual relations. Teachers are role models to students because they are seen as fair, modest, loved, fatherly, caring and valued.
