Awareness level of teachers in regards to values education and their thoughts about material - building school policy

The reason of this study is to determine teachers' opinions about their awareness level creating materials and school policy for values education. In this study, a ten questioned semi-structured questionnaire created by applying to experts was carried out. The interviewers were asked to give written answers to the questions. In this qualitative research methoded study, case study pattern is used. This study group chosen by the way of purposive sampling consists of (32 males and 28 females) 60 teachers who worked at eight middle schools in Çorum in 2017-2018 Academic Year. They consist of 13 Turkish,12 English, 9 Social Studies, 9 Maths, 7 Science, 5 Religious Education, 1 Art, 1 Vocational Course, 1 Technology and Design, 1 Information Technologies, 1 Physical Education teachers. During data analysis descriptive analysis method is used. We can sum up the results got through the description and interpretation of the data facts as following: 1. It is determined that in studies consisting of values education teachers prefer mostly used methods and technics such as being a role model, drama and watching movies. 2. It is seen that the rate of the teachers given both positive and negative answers to the questions related to the sufficiency of the sources, materials and lesson contents about the values education were almost close. 3. Related to the results of the self-assessment about being a model during values education practices, it is seen that the teachers feel themselves sufficient enough and state they are a model about it. 4. About the level of students' embracement of the given values, they think students cannot embrace the values enough because of some negative effects such as family, media and background. 5. Related to the facts of the future of values education, teachers stated that a seperate values education class is useless. 6. Teachers opinions about which institutions can help the Ministry of National Education about values education was applied. Most of the teachers stated that all the civil and official institutions and establishments should support the Ministry of National Education about values education. This research was conducted within the scope of the opinions of middle school teachers abaut values education. When the litarature was examined, no conclusion were found about the effect of social media on dthe values of students. In this context researches on social media and values relations can be done.
