The effects of the fairy tales compiled within the scope of the project "Anatolian Fairy Tales from Teachers' language to students' palette" and the prepared activity cards on 7th grade students' language use and self-expression skills

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of the students' ability to use language and self-expression skills on their self-efficacy and attitudes in line with the activities designed by using the fairy tale cards prepared by combining the tales compiled within the scope of the Ministry of National Education's Anatolian Tales Project with the in-service storytelling training. A quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group was used in the study. Nine tale texts to be used in the research were selected from the tales compiled within the scope of the project. The study group of this research consists of 7th grade students at Atatürk Secondary School in Boyabat district of Sinop province. The study group consists of a total of 58 students, 27 of which are experimental and 31 are control. The groups are determined as 7/A and 7/B branches, where the current researcher also attends the course. 7/A branch students are the experimental group, 7/B class students are the control group. Before the application, the scales of writing and speaking self-efficacy, attitude towards writing and attitude towards speaking were applied to both experimental and control group students. The pretest data of the study were created within the framework of the responses given to the scales. In the experimental phase of the research, fairy tales were told by the researcher for 8 weeks, two hours a week, with the method of storytelling. The activities designed after the storytelling were implemented with the students. Events; These are works that require various skills such as completing the unfinished tale, creating new tales with activity cards, transforming the tale text into a theatrical text and animating it, preparing instructions, debating, determining the common and different aspects of tales, and presenting news by being an announcer. With these activities, it is aimed that students can use language effectively and improve their expressive power. While designing the activities, attention was paid to make him gain the skills in question, not as a single skill, but as versatile (both speaking and writing). After 8 weeks of storytelling and the implementation of the activities, the scales were reapplied to the experimental and control groups and posttest data were obtained. As a result of the analyzes reached with the SPSS program, the pretest and posttest data of the experimental and control group students were obtained. As a result of the findings obtained, it was observed that the tales told with the method of storytelling and the activities applied afterwards had positive results in favor of the experimental group students. As a result of the pretest data of the scales applied before the study, it was concluded that there was no statistical difference between the scores of the experimental and control group students (p>.05). In order to determine whether there is a significant difference between the posttest data of the scales applied to the experimental and control group students, the independent sample t-test was applied. When the distribution of the scores of the posttest data of the experimental group students was examined, it was concluded that the mean scores of the control group students were significantly higher (p<.05). Finally, the opinions of the experimental group students about the storytelling and activity studies carried out within the scope of the project were taken and it was concluded that they liked the lessons taught in this way very much, they participated in the activities willingly, they had a lot of fun in the narration process, and they became more willing to speak and write. It is seen that making use of tales and activities in the teaching process; It enabled students to express themselves while having fun and to use the language effectively in an environment where they felt comfortable.
