DETERMINING TEACHERS? VIEWS ABOUT SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION, USED STUDENT EVALUATION AND ASSESSMENT METHODS AND THEIR IMPORTANCE IN THE EDUCATIONAL PROCESSES ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to determine the characteristics of the Turkish science and technology curriculum, and the student evaluation and assessment methods that are used in science and their importance in the educational processes. The study was based on survey data with participation of 52 science and technology teachers who work in state schools of Bartın. SPSS-12.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) package programme was used in order to perform statistical analysis on the data obtained in the survey. Some of the findings which were obtained in teachers? opinions as a result of the research study may be arranged in order as follows: ? Thought that it was necessary for students to engage actively in the educational processes, ? Stated that scientific and technological developments have influence on life, ? Thought that study-centered teaching should be taken into consideration in planning the educational process, ? Generally use daily tools in education, ? Utilize multiple choise tests as measurement instruments in their classrooms, ? Cooperate with their colleagues in their schools, ? Mostly give an exam at the end of each unit, ? Generally show exam papers to their students in order to let them see their mistakes after an exam, ? Generally announce exam results in a short time period following an exam, ? Utilize different questions types in exams. As seen from these findings there are failure in utilizing alternative assessment and measurement techniques. Therefore, it is necessary to provide opportunities for teacher development in this respect.
