Examination of the relationship between teachers ' program literacy and their commitment to the curriculum

This study aims to examine the relationship between teachers ' program Literacy and their commitment to the curriculum. The study involved 394 teachers working in two kindergarten, three primary, four secondary and four high school levels located in the center of Gaziantep province. Cluster sampling method was used to determine the teachers involved in the study. The "Education Program Literacy scale" developed by Bolat (2017) and the "commitment to the curriculum scale" developed by Yaşaroğlu and Manav (2015) were applied to the teachers. According to the data obtained from the scales, teachers ' level of Program Literacy and commitment to the curriculum was analyzed with the SPSS® 22.0 program in terms of gender, educational level and professional seniority variables. Independent samples for gender and education level variables were applied to the T test, professional seniority variable, and a one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). In addition, correlation analysis was applied to examine the relationship between teachers ' program Literacy and their commitment to the curriculum, and regression analysis was applied to examine the effect of program Literacy on the level of commitment to the curriculum. As a result of the analysis, the literacy level of teachers and their level of commitment to the curriculum were found to be generally high. No significant differences were found in terms of gender variables in both Program Literacy and curriculum adherence levels, while no significant differences were found in terms of educational level and professional seniority variables. The relationship between teachers ' level of program Literacy and their level of commitment to the curriculum was positively significant at a high level. Finally, in line with the main purpose of the research, the effect of Program Literacy on adherence to the curriculum was linearly analyzed and the analysis concluded that program literacy has a significant effect on adherence to the curriculum, that is, a predictor.
