The role of teachers' occupational professionalism in explaining their attitudes towards the activities of psychological counceling and guidance

In this study, the role of teachers' occupational professionalism in explaining their attitudes towards the activities of psychological counceling and guidance was examined. In addition, it was investigated whether the professionalism of teachers and their attitudes towards psychological counseling and guidance activities differ significantly according to their demographic characteristics. This research was designed based on the relational survey model within the framework of the quantitative research approach. It consists of 212 teachers who work in official basic education and secondary education institutions in their districts and are selected by easy sampling method. Personal Information Form, Teacher Attitudes Towards Guidance and Psychological Counseling Activities Scale and Teachers' Professional Professionalism Scale were used to collect the data of the study. The analysis of the data was carried out with the SPSS program. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the professional professionalism of the teachers is at a high level and their positive attitudes towards guidance and psychological counseling activities are at a very high level. Significant differences were found in the professionalism of teachers according to gender, educational status, institution and seniority. Significant differences were found in teachers' attitudes towards guidance and counseling activities according to gender and educational status. It was concluded that the professional professionalism of the teachers explained their attitudes towards psychological counseling and guidance activities in a positive and meaningful way.
