The effect of training with additional weights on some physical and physiological parameters and chronic muscle damage in archers

Abstract (EN)

This study was carried out to determine the effects of training with additional weights on some physical and physiological parameters and muscle damage in archers. The research group consisted of 30 male volunteer athletes between the ages of 12-17, licensed in the archery branch. The research groups were formed as the group that did additional weight training (ATG=10), the group that did additional weightless training (TG=10) and the control group (CG=10) that routinely shot only arrows. The research groups were given 60-minute strength exercises 3 days a week for 8 weeks. Within the scope of the research, only archery shooting was applied to the control group. Along with the training applied to our first group with additional weights, a weight was attached to the wrists of 1% of their body weight and a training program was applied by using additional weights from the beginning to the end of the training. The planned training program was applied to our second group with no additional weights. On the other hand, arrow shooting for routine archery training was applied to the control group. Within the scope of the research, physical test measurements and blood samples were taken from the athletes twice at the beginning and at the end of the training. SPSS 22.0 statistical package program was used in the analysis of the data. Significance level was taken as p<0.05. As a result of the research, it was determined that there was a significant difference in the right and left hand grip strength, leg strength, flexibility, reaction speed test (auditory right and left hand, visual, right and left hand), hit score of the additional weighted training group (p<0.05). When the physiological parameters of the athletes are evaluated, creatine kinase (CK), Creatine Kinase Myocardial Band (CKMB), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), C-reactive protein (CRP), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT) , alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was found to be significantly different (p<0.05). In the unweighted training group, there were significant differences in the left hand grip strength and reaction speed test (auditory right and left hands, visual, right and left hands), flexibility test, and ALT and AST values in physiological parameters (p<0.05). In conclusion; It was determined that training with additional weights had a positive effect on some physical and physiological parameters. It has been determined that the training we have done with additional weights increases the hit score. It is thought that if the trainings are designed by considering these parameters in the trainings to be made, it will affect the performances of the athletes in a positive way.
