Effects on geraniol and geraniol xanthate on some metals on rats induced oxidative stress

Abstract (EN)

The conservative effects of intraperitoneally administered geraniol and geraniol xanthate on the levels of elements Fe, Zn, Cu, Ca, Mn and Mg in liver, lung, kidney, muscle tissues of rats exposed to oxidative stress by H2O2 have been investigated. For this purpose, geraniol, geraniol xanthate, H2O2 and combination groups were used.H2O2 group iron level was observed to increase in all groups compared to the control group (p < 0.001, p < 0.01). It was observed that iron levels of combination groups generally dropped compared to the H2O2 group due to the effects of geraniol and geraniol xanthate. H2O2 group calcium level was generally observed to increase in all tissues compared to the control group (p<0.01, p < 0.05). It was observed that Ca levels of combination groups relatively dropped compared to the H2O2 group due to the effects of geraniol and geraniol xanthate. H2O2 group Zn level was observed to decrease in kidney, lung and muscle tissues compared to the control group (p < 0.05, p < 0.001, p < 0.01). While it was observed that geraniol and geraniol xanthate groups Zn levels increased especially in lung tissue compared to the control group(p < 0.05), Zn levels of all groups which were administered geraniol and geraniol xanthate were observed to show values similar to the control group. While H2O2 group Mn level was observed to decrease in liver and kidney tissues compared to the control group (p < 0.01), no statistical differences were found between the other groups (p > 0.05). In general terms, no statistical differences were found between Cu and Mg levels of all the groups (p > 0.05).According to the results of our trials, we think that geraniol and geraniol xanthate decrease high Fe and Ca levels that formed in the case of oxidative stress whereas these substances increase low Zn levels that formed in the case of oxidative stress.
