Examination of activities for reading comprehension skills by different raters with generalizability theory

The aim of this study is to increase the effectiveness of these activities in the light of the data obtained as a result of the examination of the activities prepared to improve reading comprehension skills by expert raters in their fields. The study involves the examination of five activities for reading comprehension skills created by the researcher, by expert raters in their fields, through a rubric whose validity and reliability have been proven. A descriptive scanning method based on a quantitative paradigm was used in the study. In the research, five reading comprehension activities in the Skill-Based Turkish Language and Literature books prepared by the General Directorate of Secondary Education of the Ministry of National Education, developed by the researcher, a rubric with 16 criteria and 12 different raters created by the researcher were used. After the reliability and validity analyzes of the developed rubric were performed, the raters made their examinations using this rubric. Data were analyzed based on Generalizability Theory. As a result of the applications, the EduG program was used to estimate the variance values for main and common effects, to calculate the reliability of the scores with G and Φ (Phi) coefficients, and in Decision (K) studies. As a result of the research, it would be appropriate to use reading comprehension skill activities to improve students' reading comprehension skills, the more students interact with reading comprehension activities, the better they will be able to develop this skill, the scoring of activities to measure reading comprehension skills by a single rater will create a deficiency, and more than one It has been concluded that evaluation by the rater will increase the effectiveness of the activities, that a small number of activities to measure reading comprehension skills will create a deficiency in meeting the criteria, and that using more than one activity will increase the effectiveness of reading comprehension skills.
