An investigation of teachers' perceptions of school principals' supervision roles (The sample from Şanlıurfa)

The purpose of the study was to determinethe extent to which their school principal's supervision roles perform according to primary and middle school teachers' opinions and examine differentiation situation of teacher's perceptions concerning the school principal's supervision roles in respect to teachers' personal and professional characteristics. The research is a descriptive study designed in the survey method. Random sampling technique, a technique of probability sampling, was used in the study. The sample of the research was contained of 420 teachers working at primary and middle schools located in the central districts of Şanlıurfa province (Eyyübiye, Haliliye and Karaköprü). The scale of teacher about determining school principals' supervision competencies was used as the data collection tool. The data were analyzed by using "means", "standard deviations", ''levene test'', "t-test", "one-way ANOVA" and ''Mann Whitney U''. The results revealed that teachers' perceptions related to school principals' supervision roles were at "good" level. Furthermore, it was tested whether teachers' perceptions of school principals' supervision roles differed significantly in terms of their gender, branch, age, seniority, managerial experience, appointment type, work period with the current principal and school principals' graduate studies variables and district where they worked. As a result of the study, it was found out that teachers' perceptions of school principals' supervision roles differed significantlyin terms of branch, work period with the current principal, and school principals' graduate studies variables, district where they worked; however, there were no significant differences between teachers' perceptions according to gender, age, seniority, managerial experience, and appointment type variables.
