Instructional leadership practices of principals: what do they think about

This research is done to determine the views about the instructional leadershıp behaviours that the principals exhibit. The study is based on the qualitative method and is composed of 16 school directors who administer in the primary and secondary schools in Akçakoca/Düzce. Nine open-ended questions are used in the interview forms of the study and alternative questions are asked in case of necessary situations. The name of the participants are hidden and code names (M1,M2...) are used in this study. Interviews are recorded by tape recorder with the participants approval. The decoding of voice recordings are done by the researcher and written down in the study. The written explanations have been delivered to participants and the answers belonging to them are confirmed by the participants. Last shape is given to written explanations based on the information coming from the participants. In the end of the study, according to the school directors views, on the dimension of defining school goals and sharing them, it is found out that the school directors define the school goals, on the dimension of education program and administering instructional process, it is found out that the school directors can?t have enough information about instructional programs, on assessing students dimension; it is found out that the school directors encourage the increase of students academical success, on the dimension of developing and assisting teachers; it is found out that the school directors contribute to the professional development of the teachers, on constituting regular learning-teaching environment dimension, it is found out that the school directors are in cooperation with social environment and they are doing activities to increase motivation of the teachers. Moreover it is determined that school directors are effective in school administration. Key Words: The School Principal, The Education Leadership
