Abstract (EN)

This research aims to determine the competency levels of school principals. Based on the views of guidance teachers, the study examines the competency levels of school principals and the differences in the opinions of guidance teachers based on demographic variables such as gender, seniority, marital status, as well as variables such as the duration of working with school principals, school type, and the region where their schools are located. In this research, a descriptive survey model was used to explain the current situation. The research population consists of 543 guidance teachers working in public schools in the central districts of Antalya province in the 2022-2023 academic year, including Aksu, Döşemealtı, Kepez, Konyaaltı, and Muratpaşa districts. A sample of 221 guidance teachers was selected from these five districts' public schools through simple random sampling. The School Principals Competency Scale (SPCS), developed by Aksoy (2012), was administered to the guidance teachers during the data collection process. The research findings indicate that according to the views of guidance teachers, school principals have the highest competency level in the technical competency dimension, followed by a slightly lower level in the humanistic competency dimension, both being at a moderate level. The conceptual competency dimension, however, has a lower value compared to the other two areas. The overall competency level is determined to be at a moderate level.
