Determining the usage of piano methods for pre-school children by examination

Ill DETERMINING THE USAGE OF PIANO METHODS FOR PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN BY EXAMINATION (Master's Thesis) TU?CE KAYNAK GAZİ ÜNİVERSİTESİ INSTITUTE OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES Ankara 2004 ABSTRACT In this research, it has been aimed to point out the reasons for use of some specific methods for piano training of pre-school children and to introduce the known but not widely used methods to piano instructors. The research, being a descriptive one, is prepared with "resource browsing" and "survey application" methods and the data acquired by the surveys are converted to frequency and percentage tables. Regarding the subject of this research, the piano instructors and the methods are considered as different universes. Accordingly, the piano instructors training pre school children in Turkey is considered to be the 1st universe and all of the piano methods for pre-school children (ages 5-6) is considered to be the 2nd universe. The 1st sample is 53 piano instructors working for Gazi University, Hacettepe Conservatory, Ankara Anadolu High School of Fine Arts, Bilkent University.SCA Music Foundation and the 2nd sample is 12 piano methods being used by those instructors. As a result, it has been found out that it is needed to have intructors specialized in pre-school children piano training and retailers to provide easy access to introductory level piano methods. Additionally, it has been revealed that theIV instructors are making use of Denis Agay's "Learning to Play Piano" mostly and they do not know other methods to a large extent.
