Examination of the emotion regulation skills of mothers who have children in the preschool period and the level of children's expressing their emotions

Emotions play an important role in establishing a bond between mother and child from birth. Many factors are effective in children's ability to express their emotions. It is thought that one of these factors is mothers' ability to regulate their emotions. The purpose of this research is to examine mothers' emotional regulation skills and their children's ability to express their emotions. The population of the research consists of mothers of children whose children receive pre-school education in kindergartens affiliated to the Karaköprü and Haliliye District Directorate of National Education in Şanlıurfa province. The sample of the research consists of mothers of 342 children studying in seven kindergartens, determined by convenience sampling method. "Personal Information Form", "Parent Emotion Regulation Scale" and "Child Emotion Expression Scale-Mother Form" were used as data collection tools. Data were analyzed using Mann Whitney-U Test, Kruskall Wallis-H Test and Spearman Correlation Test. As a result of the research, there was a significant difference between the Parental Emotiom Regulation Scale and the child's age, child's birth order, number of children, mother-partner age, mother-partner education level, mother's employment status, mother and children's emotional sharing status(p<.05). A significant diffrence was found between the Child Emotion Expression Scale and the child's age, birth order of the child, number of siblings, age of the parents, education level of the parents, working status of the mother, and emotional sharing status of the mother and children (p<.05). Additionally, there is a negative correlaton between the mother's avoidance of the child's emotions sub-dimension of the Parental Emotion Regulation Scale and the happy sub-dimension of the Child Expression of Emotion of Emotion Scale; There is a positive relationship between the anger sub-dimension, the mother's orientation to the child's emotions sub- xii dimension of the Parental Emotion Regulation Scale and the happy sub-dimension of the Child Expression of Emotion Scale, the mother's acceptance of the child's and her own emotions sub-dimension of the Parental Emotion Regulation Scale and the Child Among the happy sub-dimension of the Emotion Expression Scale , positively; It was determined that there was a significant negative relationship between the sad, afraid and angry subscales.
