Examination of early literacy materials used in preschool period and a book design proposal

The aim of the research is to examine the early literacy materials used in preschool period and to design a children's book by the researcher in the light of these findings. First chapter covers the following topics: problem, purpose, importance, assumpti ons, limitations and definitions. Second chapter presents research on the literature. In this section, the development process of children in preschool is defined. Then, literacy and early literacy beginnings as well as early literacy skills elucidated. From early literacy skills to phonological awareness subheadings were examined one-by-one and then moved onto materials topic. After material identification and its importance, game materials used during pre-school, material design criteria and material types are analyzed. Third Chapter presents the research method. Applying qualitative research methods by using "document review" data used in the study, developed by researchers and consisting of Article 9 "Material Evaluation Criteria" created with the Latin alphabet in the world and Turkey and Random (random sampling) has been selected by the method of 37 units were obtained from the study of early literacy material. Fourth Chapter interprets the findings of the research. 37 early literacy materials selected by random research method were analyzed from the perspective of graphic designer and preschool educator. These materials examined in terms of various properties; It has been categorized under three headings as two-dimensional, three-dimensional and digital media. In the rest of this section, results and recommendations are discussed. In the fifth chapter a children's book was designed by the researcher based on these results in the light of the information about the materials examined.
