Examinining of the relationship between the behavioral problems of the children in the preschool period and parents? attitudes

The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between the behavioral problems of the chıldren in the preschool period and parents? attitudes and to examine the behavioral problems of the children and the parents? attitudes considering the variables related to family. So as to achieve this goal, research has been prepared in compliance with the survey- type model.The sample of this research composes of 233 5-6 year-old students studying at the preschool educational institutions in the centre of Burdur and their parents.In the reseach, personal information form developed by the reseacher in order to collect the data about family, ?Preschool Behavior Questionnaire? in order to search the behavioral problems of the students in the pre-school period and ?Parental Attitude Research Instrument? in order to determine attitudes of the parents have been used.Data collected in the reseach have been analysed by using SPSS 16.0 program. In the analysis of the data, aritmatic mean, standard deviation, one-way analysis of variance, t-test and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Analysis have been used. In order to find among which groups the difference has result from in the cases in which the difference is significant as a result of the one-way analysis of variance, LSD testing analysis has been carried out. In the cases in which the variances are not homogeneous, the analysis of Tamhane T2 test has been done.As a result of the analysis carried out through the reseach, parents? overprotective and tight disciplined attitudes have seemed to be high and as the educational level of the parents rise, over controling, tight disciplined attitudes of them and interparental conflict has been seen to diminish. Working parents have been determined to be more protective and disciplined than those who don?t work. Families whose socio-economic levels are low have been seen to own more pessimistic attitude and to have more interparental conflict. At the end of the reseach, it has emerged that fathers are more protective, tight disciplined and democratical than mothers. Considering behavioral problems of the children in the pre-school period, boys have seemed to be more violent and extremely hyperactivity/attention deficit disorder regarding girls. Besides, it?s confirmed that anxiety levels of the children increase as the parents get older. Finally, it?s been found that however low it is, there is a relationship between the behavioral problems of the children in the pre-school period and parental attitudes.Key Words: Preschool Period, Behavioral Problems, Parental Attitudes
